Questioning the deity of Christ has gone on since before His death on the cross. Historically it seemed as if these questions had remained settled for some time, however, this doctrine reemerged within the 1800’s in our country when the Jehovah’s Witnesses resurrected this doctrine. While during this time some of the greatest changes in religion took place it also was a time when men cultivated many false doctrines. The reemergence of this doctrine began with a Bible study conducted by a young Jehovah’s Witness who taught that Jesus was not deity while in the flesh. While this was not immediately accepted, the doctrine grew as this young man put it forward. After some time it took root in the mainstream of this cult until eventually it was accepted as “Gospel truth” and placed permanently into the creed of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Since that time this doctrine has reared it’s ugly head time and again within various religious groups as well as among many “non-believers.” Though it has taken on many differing forms the bases of the doctrine persists. Even the more conservative denominations have flirted with this doctrine. It is my hope that by studying this doctrine we can understand its fallacy and readily to defend against it.
