Peculiar People

(43 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
There are two passages in the New Testament that use the term “peculiar people.” Clearly, God has sanctified (set apart) His people. (cp Acts 20:32) If he has separated his people to be “peculiar people,” then two things are evident

1. One must be separated from something
2. One must be separated to something

In the account of Titus, Paul writes: “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

In the account of I Peter, Peter writes: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:”

The words peculiar in both accounts come from the same Greek word. (noun - peripoiesis) This word defined refers to a “purchased possession.” (Vine’s) By implication and context being God’s purchased possession or one who is a Christian makes one different then the world.

For our time together this week let us consider God’s “peculiar people.”

No Creator No Grace

In February 2006 the New York Times had an article, which stated, “more than 10,000 ministers had signed the letter, which states, in part, that the theory of evolution is ‘a foundational scientific truth.’ To reject it, the letter continues, ‘is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children.’” Point being, that to embrace Darwinism is to deny the Genesis account of creation. In my humble opinion to reject creation one must equally reject God, because all life, even human life, and eternal salvation are wrapped up together with the concept of a merciful Creator. Essentially, this means that if no Genesis, no Creator, and if no Creator, no eternal life! Should we not be concerned about hearing the truth about creation when many so-called “religious leaders” deny the creation story? That’s the question we’ll attempt to answer this week.

Living Among A Sinful Generation

(47 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
Christ called his generation a “generation of vipers.” As such He also deemed it evil, adulterous, wicked, faithless, and perverse. (Matt 3:7; 12:34, 39; 17:17) By the time that Jesus had ascended little had changed. The apostle Peter, in the first sermon ever given, said “Save yourselves from this untoward generation.” (Acts 2:40) Peter was saying that people needed saving from a morally “crooked” generation. This is the kind of world the church grew up in.

Now, imagine the difficult nature of living among such a generation. For our time this week let us consider "Living Among A Sinful Generation."

Get Back

You’ve heard the phrase “can’t see the forest for the trees,” well that is exactly the case when we talk about religious truth. There are many obstacles that one must hurdle when looking for truth in today’s religious clime. However, the answer to removing these obstacles may be simpler than one might think. Simply, getting back to the Bible only is the only sure way of avoiding the religious confusion. With this in mind this week let’s discuss not only how we “Get Back” to the Bible but the fact that it’s essential to “Get Back.”
