The New Creature

(42 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
The words of Paul to the Corinthians, in his second epistle to that local body of the saved, suggests a change that takes place in the one “in Christ.” From the reading itself it seems obvious man’s physical characteristics do not change, as to “partake of the divine nature” as a physical manifestation, but rather that man is changed nonetheless.

For our time this week let us suggest a comparison study of verses in the frequently parallel letters of Ephesians and Colossians as a clue to this “new” and different creature.

The Sanctity of Marriage

(40 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
That a problem exists in the world, especially the United States, concerning the institution of marriage, is to say the least, obvious. With the push for gay marriage along with rampant adultery, marriage has gotten a black eye.

No doubt, when children grow up in a home where divorce has occurred it leaves them with a bad taste in their mouths. They see no respect for marriage in their homes and tend to grow up either believing marriage is bad and don't marry or they get married but if things don’t work out just get divorced. It is evident that many do not believe marriage is a sanctified union.

Although Bible scholars and teachers point out that Jesus taught that divorce is sin, unless adultery is involved (and very few at that), very few ever point out that marriage can be blissful and more rewarding than any alternative.

With these thoughts in mind this week let's be reminded of what God has spoken concerning the sanctity of marriage.

The Requirements of the Citizen

(51 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
To enter the kingdom of God one must be born again. This involves having faith, repenting of our sins, confessing Jesus as Christ and being immersed in the waters of baptism. This is the requirement of citizenship for man. (Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 6:3-6) Those who meet these requirements are translated into the present kingdom of God’s dear Son (cp Col 1:12-14)

However, to remain in this kingdom the citizen is obligated to make their calling and election sure. That is, they must maintain righteousness in their lives. Righteousness that Jesus said must surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees. (cp Matt 5:20) It is with diligence in growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ that the citizen maintains this righteousness. (II Pet 1:5-9) Those then that maintain, endure, or continue steadfastly will receive an abundant entrance into the everlasting (heavenly) kingdom of Jesus Christ (cp II Pet 1:10-11)

In this lesson, we will focus our attention on the required righteousness of the citizen of the kingdom.

The Real vs. The Ideal

(47 downloads)

Download this episode (15 min)
Since we live in an imperfect world there is always a gap between what is real and what is ideal -- between things as they are and as they ought to be. For instance, all responsible people sin even Christians. (Romans 3:10-11, 21; I John 1:8, 10) Paul described his struggle with sin while under the law of Moses in Romans 7:14-25. His conflict is typical of every conscientious person’s struggle to bridge the gap between the real and the ideal.

We know all too well that while there are a lot of good people, there are no absolutely perfect people. There are many good marriages, good churches, good businesses -- but no truly perfect ones. With this in mind let’s discuss this week the struggle of "The Real vs. The Ideal."
