Are You A True Believer?

In a CBS Poll from April of 2006, 899 American adults where asked, “Which of the following statements comes closest to your belief about God: You believe in God; You don't believe in God, but you believe in some other universal spirit or higher power; or You don't believe in either?” The results show a resounding, 89% of those asked said they believed in God. Sounds encouraging, doesn’t it? However, when you read further you find that only 26% thought is was “extremely important” to follow God in their daily lives and only 33% thought it was “very important.” Point being - people say they believe but don’t manifest their beliefs in their daily lives. With this in mind let’s consider what God’s feelings are about following Him in one’s daily life.

What Is Sin?

The Greek word most often translated “sin” literally means to “miss the mark.” Thus, we sin when we “miss the mark” which God has set for us. (Cf. Romans 3:23; Ephesians 4:26) But there are other things that we need to know about sin, if we are to truly recognize it for what it is. So, study along with this week as we ask, "What Is Sin?"

Christ's True Church Today

According to the inspired writings of the apostle’s, the church is a valuable and necessary part of God’s eternal plan for our salvation. (cp Eph 3:10-11) Jesus died for His church (Acts 20:28; Eph 5:25), built His church (Matt 16:18; Acts 2:47), and is the Head and foundation of His church. (Eph 1:22; I Cor 3:11) The church is scripurally described as the body of Christ (Eph 1:22-23) and is called the house of God. (I Tim 3:15) To say the church is unimportant, unnecessary, or the invention of man is to deny the word of Christ!

Strangely enough, there are 1000’s of churches today all claiming to belong to Christ, and yet they all speak and practice different doctrines. With such confusion, how do we know which one is right? Are any right? Should I belong to any of them? How can I just become a member of the New Testament church? Let’s investigate this week these questions from the scriptures.

Betrayed

“Betray” is one of the ugliest words of our English language. No one who has ever betrayed his friends, his loved ones or his nation has ever been counted as a hero. It's a dastardly action loaded with shame. How much more shameful is it to betray the Christ and the church for which He suffered and died?

Every day, and for centuries for that matter, Christ and His church have faced betrayal. Whether from those who are determined to impose change in faith, worship and practice or whether it is an individual who turns away from Christ in their daily lives, betrayal is a real and dangerous concept. Whether one realizes it or not, betrayal is the chief cause of difficulties among believers.

This week let’s talk about betrayal from the standpoint of those who would try to change Christ’s church.
